Another year, another rotation around the sun. And another year means another International Earth Day! Our planet does a lot for us and our health. Fresh air gets us outside and active, keeping your heart strong. Clean water keeps our bodies well, allowing us to live healthy lives. Here are a few things you can do to help yourself – and the planet – feel better this International Earth Day.

Get active! Turn off the lights and go outside. About 65% of global warming pollution comes from energy generation; that means every time you turn on your lights, computer, TV or other electronic device, you are contributing to that number. Just think how much turning off the TV and getting active for just a few hours each day will benefit both you and the environment.

Start a garden. Not only is it great for the environment, but it’s also great for your health! Gardening is a scientifically proven stress reliever, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention considers gardening to be a moderate-intensity level exercise.

Buy a reusable water bottle. The average American uses more than 150 plastic water bottles each year. More than 80% of these are not recycled and take thousands of years to decompose. By purchasing a reusable water bottle, you will be significantly reducing your impact on the environment, saving money and promoting healthy habits for you and your family.
