Certified by the American Board of Family Practice, Dr. Rains serves as one of the main physicians at the AFC/Doctors Express Lawrence location, 10950 Pendleton Pike in Indianapolis. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Indiana Academy of Family Physicians.

Previously, Dr. Rains served as an active physician for Community Hospital Network at its North and East hospital locations in Indianapolis and was the chairman of its Department of Family Medicine. He also worked at MedExpress Urgent Care and was the medical director at the Indiana Women’s Prison.

Honored as Indiana Family Physician of the Year in 1998, Dr. Rains served many years as a clinical instructor and adjunct professor for the Ball Memorial Hospital family practice residency in Muncie. He also held several leadership positions with the Indiana State Medical Association.

Originally from New Providence, Iowa, Dr. Rains received his Bachelor of Arts in chemistry from William Penn College and his Doctor of Medicine from University of Iowa Medical School. He did his family practice residency at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, where he also received his Master of Science in family practice education. He completed the family practice fellowship program at the Faculty Development Center of Texas in Waco.

Dr. Rains resides in Indianapolis. He is involved with both the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir and Indianapolis First Friends Meeting.
